Mom brings pot to police station

CONNEAUT — The mother of a naked, 2-year-old girl found walking in the middle of a busy Conneaut street Wednesday morning faces charges in Conneaut Municipal Court.

Lindsy Crawford, 33, 169 Dean Ave., has been charged with endangering children and possession of marijuana, according to a court spokeswoman. She is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday.

Around 8 a.m. Wednesday, police were called to Broad Street near Dean Avenue for a report of a naked toddler walking on Broad Street, said Police Chief Charles Burlingham. The child was unhurt, he said.

Officers unsuccessfully tried to find the child’s home, Burlingham said. The girl was brought to the police station, he said.

Two hours later, a woman called asking about a missing child. She was told the child was at the station, and upon her arrival was informed she will be charged with endangering children, Burlingham said. The woman, later identified as Crawford, carried a small amount of marijuana into the police station, he said.

Crawford told police when she awoke Monday she discovered two doors to her home were open, Burlingham said.

Personnel with Children’s Services took the toddler and a 4-month-old sibling out of Crawford’s home, Burlingham said.
