Three school levies are among the issues and candidates that will appear on Ashtabula County primary election ballots on May 7.
Filing deadline at the Ashtabula County Board of Elections for issues and candidates was 4 p.m. Wednesday. Ashtabula’s charter gives candidates in that city until Feb. 21 to file petitions. The election board is expected to convene a meeting on Feb. 15 to verify the petitions, said Carol Lovas, director.
Based on Wednesday’s filings, here — so far — is what will be presented voters:
ISSUES
• Ashtabula Area City Schools — A five-year, 6.2-mill additional emergency levy
• Ashtabula — Two items: Renewal of the city’s 1.8 percent municipal income tax and a restructuring of the municipal finance department
• Geneva — Municipal income tax increase from 1.5 to 2 percent
• Geneva-on-the-Lake — Four-year, 1.5-mill replacement levy for roads and bridges
• Geneva Union Cemeteries District — Additional five-year, 0.5-mill levy for cemeteries
• Grand Valley Public Library — Additional, continuous two-mill levy for current expenses
• Harpersfield Township — Five-year, 1-mill renewal for roads and bridges
• Jefferson Area Local Schools — Five-year, 4.5-mill renewal for current expenses
• Ledgemont Local School District — Additional 14.7 mills to avoid an operating deficit
CANDIDATES
• Ashtabula — Alfred Camplese, incumbent Ashtabula Municipal Court judge
• Geneva — Timothy Miller, incumbent Geneva City Council member
