JEFFERSON —
February is Pet Dental Month and Country Doctor Veterinary Clinic is celebrating by offering a free “Flip the Lip Service” to everyone.
The goal of Country Doctor is to educate pet owners on the importance of dental care for their pets. Pet owners may not realize that bad breath is a sign of dental disease. Periodontal disease begins with a bacterial film called plaque forming on a pet’s teeth.
Over time the plaque becomes hardened to the teeth and forms tartar or calculus. If the tartar continues to form on the teeth, it can extend into the gum line and result in gingivitis, inflammation and bleeding of the gums. If left untreated, the bacteria can travel into the bloodstream and affect vital organs such as the heart, lungs, liver and kidneys, shortening the animal’s lifespan.
Other signs to look for are red or irritated gums, loose or missing teeth and changes in a pet’s eating and chewing behavior.
During the free “Flip the Lip Service,” the staff at Country Doctor will check pets for the signs of periodontal disease at no charge. If it is determined that a pet would benefit from a teeth cleaning, Country Doctor is offering a special price for the procedure.
To schedule a free “Flip the Lip” exam, call Country Doctor at 440-576-9440. For more information about the importance of pet dental care, visit Country Doctor’s Website at www.countrydrvet.com.
