On Tuesday, Ashtabula County’s Housing Continuum of Care will be conducting the annual Point In Time count. The Point In Time Count will begin at 12 a.m. and end at 11:59 p.m. Local organizations and volunteers will be out in the community looking for homeless men, women and children to provide outreach and obtain information necessary for the count.
The Point In Time Count includes homeless men, women and children living on the streets or places not meant for human habitation, emergency shelters or transitional housing programs. The Point In Time Count provides the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) with data needed to understand the number and characteristics of people who are homeless (Sheltered or unsheltered) at one point-in-time in Ashtabula County. HUD requires counts of sheltered and unsheltered homeless people for those communities receiving McKinney-Vento funding through the Continuum of Care (CoC) Homeless Assistance Program.
If you are aware of places in the community where homeless people may be staying (parks, parking lots, encampments, abandoned houses, etc.) please share that information prior to the count.
If you are homeless, encounter a homeless men, women and/or children on the day of the count, please contact Catholic Charities at 992-2121.
The Salvation Army Service Center located on 3527 Lake Avenue will open their doors from 12 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday to provide food and shelter to those who are homeless.
For further information about the Ashtabula County Homeless Point In Time Count or to volunteer please contact Jill Valentic, assistant director at 992-2121.
