CONNEAUT —
A boil alert that followed a Monday afternoon water line break in Conneaut could expire this morning, a City Hall spokeswoman said.
The alert was scheduled to be lifted at 11 a.m., but that timetable depended on the results of a chemical analysis, the spokeswoman said. If test results aren’t good, the alert could be extended, she said.
The break occurred around noon near a water pump station on Center Road behind the Love’s Travel Stop plaza at Route 7 and Interstate 90. The break affected water service to a large number of customers south of Interstate 90, as well as other locations in town, according to reports.
City water crews repaired the break on Monday, officials said.
The number of customers affected by the break wasn’t immediately known. Gateway Elementary and Conneaut Middle schools, located a short distance from the freeway interchange, shut their doors and sent students to Lakeshore Primary and Conneaut High schools, respectively, officials said.
It’s believed a handful of businesses in the interchange area were impacted by the water break. The break did not drain water tanks and fire protection in the area was not compromised, according to reports.
