Fire destroys mobile home while family visits relatives

ANDOVER TOWNSHIP —  A famiy was left homeless late Monday afternoon when fire ripped through a mobile home at Holiday Camplands.

“It was fully involved. It was already through the roof,” said Andover Fire Chief James Dewey of what firefighters saw when they arrived on the scene just after 5 p.m. Monday.

The mobile home had several additions and was destroyed by the blaze, Dewey said.

The family was not home when the fire started and had not contacted Dewey Tuesday afternoon. “They were out of state with family for the holiday,” he said.

Dewey said firefighters remained on the scene for about an hour.

“We called a couple of neighboring departments,” he said.

Fire departments from Linesville, North Shanango, Summit and Conneaut Lake assisted while Pierpont provided standby assistance, Dewey said.

He said the dollar amount of the loss was difficult to tell because of the numerous additions and the inability to talk to the family.

Firefighters worked to insure the safety of other mobile homes. “There was damage to one of the nearby trailers. It melted some of the siding off,” Dewey said.

The mobile home was located in the 200 block of Winnebago Drive.

The cause is under investigation but firefighters have some idea where it started, Dewey said. “It appears it was the furnace or something in that area,” he said.
