KINGSVILLE TOWNSHIP —
Thousands of pounds of scrap metal goes through the shredder at Ashtabula Recycling, metal that will be cleaned, melted, pressed and reused to make something entirely new.
New beginnings for everything is a way of life at Ashtabula Recycling and owner Mark Poley is hoping to put scrap metal to use helping the animals at the Ashtabula County Animal Protective League.
Beginning today, all proceeds from scrap shipments will be donated to the APL, Poley said.
“From now until Friday, the APL gets our steel profits,” Poley said. “The more you bring in the more the APL gets.”
Poley said the 100 percent donation could amount to a very large check for the animal shelter.
“We are hoping to give them a check as big as $8,000 for a week’s profits,” he said.
Poley said this pet-friendly Earth Day observance seems like the natural thing to do.
“We have pets that we just love,” he said. “The APL always needs support and this is a great way to get people into the habit of recycling bigger items and scrap metal while helping homeless pets at the APL.”
Scrap metal includes lawn mowers and riding lawn mowers; old appliances including washers and dryers; scrap steel, and car parts. No whole cars, cans or copper will be accepted.
For more information call Ashtabula Recycling at (440) 964-0388. Ashtabula Recycling is located at 1718 Lake Ave.
