ASHTABULA — A drunk-driving suspect was injured in a crash when her sport utility vehicle rolled several times Tuesday morning on West Prospect Road, near Center Street, police said.
The driver was transported by Community Care Ambulance to Ashtabula County Medical for treatment after the one-vehicle accident, which occurred at 10:45 a.m. in the 900 block of West Prospect Road, according to police reports.
After arriving at the scene, police determined the woman was driving west on West Prospect Road when her maroon Jeep veered off the side of the road and flipped, police said.
“She’s extremely fortunate no one else was coming the other direction,” Ashtabula Police Sgt. John Koski said.
Gary Whitted, who lives at 959 W. Prospect Road, found a large piece of the vehicle’s bumper in his front yard.
“I’m trying to figure out what she ran into,” he said, looking out his front door.
The passenger side of the vehicle and the roof took on heavy damage.
Police do not know whether the driver was wearing a seat belt. The air bags deployed.
Ashtabula Fire Department also responded to the scene. Charges are pending, police said.
