Growth Partnership for Ashtabula County’s first success under the leadership of Executive Director Joseph Mayernick came in November 1990, when Worthington Cylinders decided to construct a plant in Jefferson Township.
The $10 million investment created 65 new jobs; the company’s investment in the county to date is more than $50 million. More than 200 people are employed there.
The largest private employers in Orwell (KraftMaid), Jefferson Township (Worthington), Harpersfield Township (Nordic Air), Saybrook Township (Mohawk Paper), Austinburg (Save A Lot) and Geneva (Tegam) were not here in 1990, when Growth Partnership was created.
The Partnership’s “signature works” also include improvements to the Interstate 90/ Route 45 corridor, two joint economic development districts; the Plastpro project in Saybrook Towns hip; orchestrating the sale of NEO plastics to a Canadian firm, RTS; and the development of six industrial parks.
