Final citywide walk is coming Saturday

ASHTABULA —  Grab your tennis shoes! The final citywide Healthy Ashtabula 10,000 Steps Walk will begin at 9:30 a.m. Saturday in the City Hall parking lot.

Participants will walk through the downtown, past Lance Cpl. Kevin M. Cornelius Park, down to Lake Avenue and return to City Hall by way of Park Avenue.

“People all over Ashtabula have been wearing pedometers counting their steps with a goal of taking 10,000 steps a day,” said Beverly Windle, organizer. “The latest medical and physical science shows that walking several times a week is one of the best and least expensive ways to gain heart and lung health as well as muscular strength.”

Windle said people who take 10,000 steps a day, walk five miles a day.

“Once you establish how many steps you take during you normal daily activities,  you will know how many more steps you need to reach the goal of 10,000 steps,” she said. “Set realistic goals and work your way up to your final goal.”

September, October, and November are usually pleasant months to enjoy a walk outdoors, she said.
