Details about a possible shake-up in Conneaut law director’s office should be announced next week, according to City Manager Tim Eggleston.
News about the office could come during the next regular City Council meeting, Eggleston said after a Monday night executive session with City Council. The closed-door meeting was called to discuss the departure of ex-law director David Schroeder, who is the new Ashtabula County Western County Court judge.
Eggleston couldn’t elaborate, saying arrangements are still being firmed up. Council President Thomas Udell also declined to give details, noting that administrators are still “buttoning it up.”
Udell said more information will come at Monday’s meeting. “There will be an announcement,” he said Monday night.
In the meantime, Assistant Law Director Carly Prather will handle Conneaut’s legal duties, Eggleston said.
Schroeder’s recent appointment as judge obliged him to step down as the city’s law director. The judgeship is a part-time job, and Schroeder has expressed a desire to continuing working in some capacity for the city. He cannot, however, hold the title of law director.
Gov. John Kasich appointed Schroeder to replace Richard Stevens as the court’s judge on March 1, and he took the oath of office on Friday.
