Coroner still working to identify body found at park

ASHTABULA — The Ashtabula County Coroner’s Office is still working to identify a body found Wednesday at Pymatuning State Park.

“We have pursued dental records in Colorado but we couldn’t get them,” said Ashtabula County Coroner Pamela Lancaster. She said further attempts to identify the man are on-going and may be completed in the next several days.

“We are looking to identify through surgical procedures (he had undergone) and hardware that they may be able to be traced,” she said.

If that is unsuccessful Lancaster and her investigators may have to wait for DNA results which can take weeks, she said.

A young boy looking for fishing lures found the man on Wednesday, coroner’s investigators said.

The body is believed to be a Pennsylvania man reported missing on July 18, but Lancaster said she wants to make absolutely sure it is him.

Coroner’s investigators were called to the scene about 75 yards from a beach at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday. On Wednesday coroner’s investigator Jim Behr said the body was badly decomposed and had been there for a while.

The coroner’s office ruled out foul play in the cause of death and a autopsy was not performed.
