CONNEAUT —
A cool breeze provided a refreshing alternative to the hot sun Saturday afternoon at the Conneaut Dockfest.
“The weather is great (and) the beverages are cold,” said Joe Raisian, treasurer of the Conneaut Port Authority that sponsors the annual event held on the north end of the public dock area.
“It’s been busy,” Raisian said as one of the bands, Tombstone, set up equipment for the second show of the day at a portable wooden stage to protect entertainers in case the skies opened.
A variety of area organizations sold food for visitors
The event was coordinated as a gift to the community. “It is the Port Authority’s way of saying thank you (to the community),” Raisian said.
The 2013 edition of the event may have a change of location, Raisian said.
“We are going to push this out to the sandbar,” Raisian said of the option that a committee will review and decide upon a course of action.
Tom Smile, a member of the Conneaut Tourism Bureau, said the Dockfest is an important event in selling Conneaut. He said tourists learn more about the community and will hopefully return.
“They (tourists) grab our material and get to know Conneaut. We try to get them to know what have to offer... This (tourism) is something we need to exploit,” Smile said while handing out county maps and other brochures.
Members of the Conneaut Boat Club were working a food booth to try and connect with the community, said Rick Dalrymple, a trustee with the club.
“This is our second year over here. We love coming over and supporting the club,” he said.
