Charges may await alleged pot grower

GENEVA TOWNSHIP —  Charges are pending against a 41-year-old city man police say was growing marijuana in a house on Leamur Drive, according to reports.

A report on the incident had not reached the law director’s office for review by early Tuesday afternoon, officials said, an indication the case is still under investigation. Police Chief Charles Burlingham was away from his office on Tuesday and unavailable for comment.

Early Friday evening, police obtained a search warrant from Conneaut Municipal Court to examine the Leamur Drive house, citing information about alleged drug activity on the premises. In the basement, officers located a hydroponic growing operation that included 30 marijuana plants, police said.

Also found was “numerous” drug paraphernalia, prescription pills, a handgun and several rifles, according to a police report.

Documents filed with the court to obtain the search warrant were sealed and unavailable for examination on Tuesday, a court spokeswoman said.
