TRUMBULL TOWNSHIP —
Fire fighters will have some new gear to where next time they get called to a fire, said Trumbull Township Fire Chief Larry Morse.
“Last August (2011) we applied for a $48,000 Federal Emergency Management Grant for assistance to firefighters,” he said.
A variety of new gear was recently delivered including new boots, helmets, helmet hoods, gloves and bunker pants, Morse said. He said the department runs on $22,000 a year that comes from a township levy.
Morse said the department is working hard to serve the community. “We are making progress,” he said.
Morse said he and firefighter Andy Kaschalk have been writing grants to assist the fire department in a day and age when volunteers are scarce and costs continually rising.
The department includes 20 members and five pieces of equipment.
Morse said the department has applied for a $200,000 grant that would provide about $100,000 for air compressors and new air packs. He said another $100,000 would be used to replace a used 1984 truck specifically designed to fight grass fires.
Another grant in the works, $15,000 from the Ohio Department of Commerce, would provide finances for air bottles and radio equipment, Morse said.
