JEFFERSON —
The Ashtabula County Sheriff’s Department is seeking the identity of a man who entered an Ashtabula Township pizza shop Wednesday evening and revealed to workers he had a pistol tucked in his waistband.
The white male is described as being 5 feet 5 inches, of medium build and wearing jeans and a Carhart-type coat. He was wearing a red baseball cap and sunglasses, according to witnesses and a surveillance system image.
The image came from a system at the nearby CVS drug store, where the man visited the business between 7:20 and 7:40 p.m., the report shows.
Witnesses also described a second man, wearing a “dotted jacket,” waiting for the subject across East Prospect from Salvato’s Pizza, which the subject entered shortly before 8 p.m.
An employee asked the man if he wanted to place an order, and the man shook his head no. The employee noticed that the man’s hand was hovering over a black pistol tucked in his pants at the waistband. She asked the man what was in his hand and he gave no response. The employee then told the man to leave the store, and after a short delay, he complied without saying anything.
Witnesses said he joined up with the other man across the highway and they headed west on foot.
No money was demanded or taken from the shop. Both of the workers in the pizza shop who saw the man later confirmed that he was the same person in surveillance photos taken as the subject entered the CVS store earlier.
The suspect faces a charge of inducing panic.
