JEFFERSON —
Ashtabula County employees who use their personal vehicles for county work could see an increase in their mileage reimbursement rate this year.
Commissioners on Monday tabled the original resolution that came before the board as part of its annual re-organization agenda. The board wanted to research rates before adopting the resolution that would have set the rate at 40 cents per mile.
During their work session on Tuesday, Clerk Lisa Hawkins reported that the Internal Revenue Service set the 2013 reimbursement rate at 55.5 cents. In the fourth quarter of 2012, Ohio set its rate at 45 cents.
After short discussion, the board agreed to match the state rate and review the reimbursement amount annually. The resolution setting the rate should come before the board next week.
While most county officials/departments have a vehicle for official business, divisions such as juvenile court, Children Services Board and Job and Family Services occasionally require employees to use their own vehicles, said commissioners.
Also during the work session, the board approved the donation of a 2006 Ford Crown Victoria car to A-Tech, with the stipulation the vehicle not be driven, but be used for instruction in the automotive technology classes. The car, which had been used by the coroner’s office, has numerous mechanical issues and the board asked the coroner’s staff to stop using it.
During the board’s agenda meeting on Tuesday, commissioners:
• Approved a contract with the Ashtabula County Engineer for snow plowing and removal at the courthouse complex, agricultural center, sheriff’s garage and fairgrounds for the 2012-2013 season. The county will pay the engineer’s office $2,000 for the service.
• Re-appointed Charles Lafferty to the Ashtabula County Children Services Board. His new term expires Dec. 31, 2016.
