City administrators in Conneaut have presented revamped upgrades to the town’s tree ordinance to City Council for review.
City Manager Tim Eggleston, at Monday night’s finance/ordinance committee meeting, said the rules were tweaked compared to the draft introduced early in 2012 after council expressed an interest in rewritten regulations.
“Hopefully (the latest proposed ordinance) covers 99 percent of the concerns council had,” Eggleston said.
Gone from last year’s version was a clause that would have allowed city employees on private property to make tree inspections, an idea resisted by some council members. Also, the latest version contains language that makes the appeals process more flexible for residents.
The ordinance contains the responsibilities of the city and landowner regarding trees, as well as “policies to help guide individuals planting trees and trimming trees,” Eggleston said.
In other business, Eggleston said the city is interested in a community survey to gauge interest in readjusting Conneaut’s parking regulations. City officials are concerned a growing number of people who habitually park vehicles on front lawns and side yards when driveways and street parking are available. The practice is unsightly, some officials have said.
