A water line break has prompted a boil alert for water customers in Conneaut's outhern region, said City Manager Tim Eggleston. The break occurred around noon Monday, he said. As well as houses, the break reportedly impacted a handful of businesses around the Interstate 90-Route 7 interchange. Students at Gateway Elementary and Conneaut Middle schools, located a short distance from the interchange, were transported to Lakeshore Primary and Conneaut High schools, respectively, to finish their day.

It was the first recorded magnitude 8.0 earthquake in North America, and to this day the strongest. Seismologists agree it could happen again. Some believe it could happen any time within the next 50 years.
