ASHTABULA —
Natives Jaimee Searl and John Tackett wanted to give back to the community in a positive manner by rejuvenating the area. Despite the economy, the team has achieved that dream in six months by opening Lift Bridge Landing,1032 Bridge St.
“I returned from college and after working for awhile I wanted to have my own business,” said Searl.
Even though Searl’s initial idea for a business was to open a restaurant, plans changed when the cook decided to live in another city. Searl did not allow this twist of fate to demolish her dream. At that point, her idea to open a convenience store began to develop.
Searl and Tackett then set out to find a suitable location to get the ball rolling. A building they had an eye on became available and the rest was history.
Restoration of the building took six months and hours of spackling, painting, hammering and volunteer time donated by family and friends.
The store has been open for business since January 15. However, the grand opening will be April 28 and 29. The store is open 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.
Lift Bridge Landing stocks practical food items, juices, jellies, candy and chips and sells lottery tickets. Upon expansion within the next few months, the store will be equipped with a frozen foods sections, said Searl and Tackett.
Johnson is a resident of Ashtabula.
