MADISON —
Pre-K to 12th grade Madison students rallied together Thursday afternoon to celebrate their academic excellence.
With the Oct. 17 release of the Ohio Department of Education’s annual School Report Cards, the Madison Local School District received their first-ever “Excellent with Distinction” designation.
All Madison students gathered at the Madison High School Blue Streak Memorial Stadium where the high school band, middle and high school cheerleaders and board members led the celebration rally.
Dr. Roger Goudy, Madison schools superintendent, told the students that in the last two years, Madison met 19 and 23 of the 26 Report Card indicators.
“This year, we missed 26 by a percent and a half — the graduation rate. And next year, we are going to hit 26 out of 26,” he said as the students erupted into cheers.
“We got [to the Excellent with Distinction designation] because we hit value-added for the last three years,” Goudy said in his address to students. “So as a group, you all improved in math and science. That’s a heck of an accomplishment folks. You did it. Your teachers did it. Your parents did it. The schools did it. This community did it. Be proud!”
With this top award, Madison Local School District is in the top 20 percent of Ohio schools. This year, 138 districts received the Excellent with Distinction designation, and 249 were rated Excellent.
Among the nine school districts in Lake County, Madison rated in the Excellent with Distinction designation with Riverside Local Schools meeting 26 out of 26 performance indicators, Mentor meeting 26 out of 26 performance indicators, and Madison meeting 25 out of 26 performance indicators.
Willoughby-Eastlake, Wickliffe, Perry and Kirtland schools also met 26 out of 26 performance indicators, and were given the “Excellent” designation.
