County nursing home to hold open house during festival

KINGSVILLE TOWNSHIP — Every Covered Bridge Festival Weekend, staff members of the Ashtabula County Nursing and Rehabilitation Center notice a bump in traffic along Dibble Road as a result of the bridge tours.

This year, the nursing home staff plans to be a part of that activity by offering the building as a rest stop to travelers.

John Hall, admissions director, says the building will be open from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. for the covered-bridge tourists. Many of them will pass by ACNRC on their way to the Olin and Benetka road covered bridges.

Hall said it is not the facility’s intention to compete with community groups that have fundraisers at the bridges. The staff wants to let visitors know about the home’s history and services during the event, and give travelers a clean restroom and place to rest.

A health expo will be held in conjunction with the rest stop, and provide health screenings and prizes. Visitors can count on finding a cup of coffee in the community room.

“We always have the coffee pot on,” said Trisha Lute, activities director.
