Big rigs are idled by several stolen batteries

JEFFERSON — Two Ashtabula men face charges after they reportedly took several batteries from four tractor-trailer rigs parked at two different locations earlier this week, according to the Ashtabula County Sheriff’s Office.

More than eight large batteries were removed from rigs parked at Ward Distribution Center on Cook Road and Coach Truck and Tractor Service on State Road, both in Ashtabula Township.

The thefts were reported to deputies on Tuesday and Wednesday, according to a report.

Deputies got a break in the case when a local recycling center called to report two men who were trying to scrap several big batteries at the business for cash.

The investigation eventually led to the discovery of several batteries at an Aberdeen Avenue address in Ashtabula Township.

Two young adults, age 20 and 21, were implicated in the thefts, deputies said.
