The wait in the emergency rooms at Geneva and Conneaut medical centers could be significantly shorter for computer-savvy patients, as the University Hospitals system now offers an online waiting service.
The service, dubbed “InQuicker,” the service allows patients to hold their place in line at the emergency room for non-life threatening conditions.
President of community hospitals and ambulatory network, Richard Hanson, said ill patients will appreciate waiting for their turn with the doctor from the comfort of their own homes.
“Once a prospective patient receives a projected treatment time at one of our facilities, they can wait at home rather than in the waiting room,” he said. “Once they arrive, it’s our commitment to make sure that the patient is promptly seen by a health care professional.”
Though not a reservation or appointment service, InQuicker estimates treatment times, Hanson said. InQuicker users do not skip the ER wait, and are not seen ahead of patients in the waiting room.
“InQuicker users will not impact the wait times of other visitors,” he said.
The service is available at www.UHhospitals.org/InQuicker.
Due to the ever-changing atmosphere in a hospital emergency room, treatment can be expedited or delayed depending on the number of patients or the severity of injuries or illness of waiting patients, Hanson said.
But don’t worry — patients will know if there is a delay.
“InQuicker users are sent real-time notifications via phone call and email in the event of a delay, so they can continue waiting at home,” he said.
Hanson said eight out of 10 InQuicker users are seen by a doctor or health care professional within 15 minutes of their projected treatment times.
“It’s a simple and convenient way for people with busy lives and busy families to conveniently access care for minor medical needs,” Hanson said.
