ASHTABULA —
Two children received minor injuries Tuesday morning in a school bus accident at the Ashtabula Lakeside Elementary Camp-us, a school official said.
School bus No. 32 hit bus No. 19 at 8:05 a.m. at the campus oval parking lot, after the buses had dropped off the intermediate (grades 4-6) students, Superintendent Joseph Donatone said.
The buses were preparing to pull out and move to the primary schools’ parking lot to drop off the children in grades K-3, he said.
A total of 60 children — about 30 on each bus — were involved in the crash, he said.
School nurses checked out each child and two children reported minor injuries, Donatone said.
One child had a puffy lip and another child reported a bump by an eye, he said.
No one was transported to a hospital, he said.
The buses sustained quite a bit of damage, Donatone said.
“No citations were issued because it was on private property,” he said, noting he believes the driver of bus No. 32 will be found at fault.
The driver of bus 32 said the sun was in her eyes and she didn’t see the bus ahead of her as she pulled out, hitting bus 19 in the rear with her right front end, Donatone said.
