NEW LYME TOWNSHIP — A three-car accident at the intersection of Route 46 and Route 6 closed both roads, and knocked down two utility poles Thursday evening.
A vehicle driven by Crystal Dietrich, 18, of Rock Creek was southbound on Route 46 at about 5:10 p.m., when she stopped at the stop sign at the intersection, according to Ohio Highway Patrol Trooper Chris Thayne’s report.
Dietrich then pulled out and struck a vehicle traveling west on Route 6, driven by Coleman Pinkston of Andover, Thayne said.
After the initial impact, the cars separated and Pinkston’s vehicle traveled southwest toward the BP gas station and hit a utility pole, Thayne said.
Dietrich’s vehicle struck Rome resident Billie Sundquist’s vehicle just after she filled it with fuel at the BP station, Thayne said.
“She was just getting ready to leave,” he said. “If she hadn’t been there, (Dietrich’s vehicle) would have hit the gas pumps.”
Such a crash could have ignited a fire, he said.
Pinkston’s vehicle had four children in it, and Sundquist’s had three children as passengers, reports show.
“Everyone was checked out at the scene,” Thayne said. “Only minor injuries.”
Dietrich was cited for failure to yield at a stop sign, he said.
