CONNEAUT — The demolition of Conneaut Municipal Stadium went smoothly for the first three or four days but has been more challenging recently as crews found asphalt and cement below ground level, said Superintendent Kent Houston.
“There was more concrete underground than above ground,” said school board member Mike Kennedy of the challenges facing the demolition crews.
Houston said they had to get different equipment to complete the job, which is still moving along despite the challenges.
He said a 40-to-50 foot trailer has been donated to become a press box for the reconfigured stadium. Houston said it will hopefully be placed around the old visitor’s side bleachers.
The press box will include a large middle section with room for three eight-foot tables and include two smaller coaches boxes, Houston said.
“If all goes according to plan, we will be ready for the first game,” Houston said.
He said a gutter improvement project is under way at Lakeshore Elementary School to address a drainage problem.
Several guard rails have also been constructed at the high school to deal with changed traffic patterns that are expected because of increased car use with a reduced busing schedule.
