Conneaut Dock Fest is nautical and nice

CONNEAUT — A summertime salute to Conneaut’s waterfront this month has a new name, but the same quotient of fun, organizers said.

Dock Fest is July 25 at the city’s public dock and will feature vintage boats and cars, food, music and activities, said Joe Raisian, Conneaut Port Authority member and event coordinator.

The show was formerly the Antique Boat and Car Show. The name was changed to reflect the day’s diverse schedule, he said. Many crowd favorites return, however, including an exhibit of decades-old wooden power boats. Classic cars and trucks also will be on display, Raisian said.

A section of public dock will be closed to traffic for the show, which begins at 9 a.m. with a children’s fishing derby. At noon, the Conneaut Moose Club’s “wacky boat race,” featuring homemade vessels, begins from the sandbar adjacent to the dock.

The Conneaut High School Spartan Marching Band also will perform at noon. Other entertainers include The Kingpins (1-3 p.m.) and Relay (6-9 p.m.). Local organizations and groups will set up food booths, Raisian said.

Begun four years ago, the event is meant to help attract people to the city’s Port of Conneaut District.

“It should be a nice, comfortable day down there,” Raisian said.
