Street paving starts in city

ASHTABULA — It’s the start of summer and the city’s paving season is under way.

The $202,787 project includes putting down a two-inch asphalt overlay on the following streets:

• West 29th Street from Ohio Avenue to Griswold Road;

• Griswold Road from West Avenue to the end of the curb;

• Nathan Avenue from West 58th Street to West 55th Street;

• West 14th Street from Ohio Avenue to Lake Avenue, and;

• Great Lakes Avenue from Lake Avenue to the Ashtabula Recreational Unlimited driveway.

All work will be completed by Aug. 17, according to the city’s contract with the Ronyak Brothers Paving of Burton.

City Council gave the contract its final seal of approval at Monday night’s meeting at City Hall.

The bid came in $130,000 less than expected for the work, City Manager James Timonere said.

Ronyak Brothers Paving was the low and best bidder of the three contractors, he said.

The original amount set aside for paving this year was $330,000, he said.
