ASHTABULA — The father who allegedly took a shot at his daughter’s ex-boyfriend Saturday night after a domestic altercation was released from jail Tuesday, Municipal Court officials said.

Harvey Jones, 49, of Ashtabula, was charged with felonious assault and discharging a firearm within the city limits, court officials said. He was released on a $15,000 bond, records show.

The ex-boyfriend, Randy C. Weir, 23, of Geneva, was charged with domestic violence, according to court records. He was released on a $1,500 bond, records show.

A fight began between the man’s 21-year-old daughter and Weir at about 9:30 p.m. Saturday in the 5200 block of Samuel Avenue, according to police reports. The couple have a child together, police said.

Sgt. John Koski said the argument turned physical and Jones told Weir to leave. According to the police report, Weir would not leave and continued to yell at Jones and his family. He threatened the family with bodily harm, witnesses said.

As the 23-year-old sat in his car in the driveway, Jones took out his 12-gauge shotgun and fired, according to police reports.

“The passenger (car) door took the hit,” Koski said.

No one was injured, but neighbors, as well as the man targeted, called the police, Koski said. When police arrived, Jones handed over the gun and cooperated with the officers, Koski said.
