PLYMOUTH TOWNSHIP —
A utility pole in the middle of the road led firefighters to a van in a swamp late Friday night at the intersection of Route 46 and Jefferson Road, said Plymouth Township Fire Chief Bill Strubbe.
He said the call came in as a pole in the middle of the road, but when they arrived it was clear something had knocked it from the ground.
Strubbe said after a quick look around the area they found a van in the middle of a swamp. “The van went airborne out into the swamp and landed on its tires and it was totally destroyed,” he said.
Firefighters checked the front portion of the van and couldn’t find the driver or passengers, but after opening the sliding side door were able to locate the driver in the back of the van.
“It was amazing,” Strubbe said of the condition of the van and the lack of serious injuries on the victim who was transported to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries and evaluation.
Strubbe said Ohio Highway Patrol investigated the crash but reports were unavailable Saturday evening.
