Letters to the Editor
My wife and I wish to express our support for Issue 7, the Ashtabula City Schools emergency levy that will be on the ballot March 6.
We are retired residents and property owners in the city of Ashtabula. We are senior citizens who live on a fixed income. Our children and grandchildren in this area are grown. Why in the world would we want to support Issue 7? There are several very good reasons:
The quality of life in a community is directly related to the quality of its school system.
The value of property in a city is directly related to the quality of its school system.
Young families will more likely move into a city where there is a well-funded school system that is on the growing edge of education.
Businesses are more prone to locate in areas where there are strong vibrant school systems.
Supporting our city school system is investing in the overall economic well being of our community.
In a much broader sense, funding local school systems is a patriotic choice to invest in America. The future of our nation both economic and otherwise is dependent on the education of our children.
My wife and I cannot afford to pay more taxes, but we cannot afford not to support our school system in the city of Ashtabula. Please join us in voting for Issue 7 on March 6.
