I believe the Star Beacon has always tried to represent both sides of issues, featuring left and right views in the syndicated columns and editorial cartoons. I noticed the Star Beacon has stopped publishing Rep. Kozlowski columns about what is going on in Columbus.
I found that those articles never mention anything about him running for another term, never ask anyone to vote for him nor mentioned anything about either party being right or wrong about an issue. We always clamor about having an informed electorate; how do we get the information if the local paper won’t even print it for us?
Having noticed this development, I was intrigued when I read the announcement that the paper was allowing a “guest” to write an informative series on school funding. The first two articles were what I expected, informational and mostly neutral with the exception of the end tag line which read like an ad for his re-election campaign. When I read the third and fourth installments, I wondered how they could be read as purely informative articles. The third piece wasn’t as bad as the fourth, but both were obvious attempts to sway voters to voting for the author.
These articles became nothing more than free political press for the candidate that the paper or its editors favor. It is unfortunate they have decided to covertly endorse a candidate instead of just announcing it like other papers. The paper obviously has the right to endorse whomever they prefer, but let’s not do it secretly, let’s keep things in the open and print it so everyone can realize the bias that is present.
I do have one question for Mr. Patterson, and I believe I speak for all of the employees of private schools in the areas you wish to represent. What do you have against private schools? Shouldn’t people have the choice to send their kids to whatever school they choose?

Your editorial in the July 28 Opine section of the Star Beacon in regard to slow drivers causing accidents, while praising fast drivers, really pulled my chain, so to speak.
