SAYBROOK TOWNSHIP — John Edward “Jack” Hawn, age 91, of Locust Drive, was reunited with his beloved wife, Florence on Friday, Dec. 7, 2012.
He was born Sept. 2, 1921, in Ashtabula, the son of William and Ann (Quinn) Hawn, and had remained a life-long Ashtabula resident. On Nov. 22, 1947, he married the love of his life, Florence Capitina and prior to her death on Oct. 1, 2012, they would have celebrated sixty-five years of marriage this year.
John worked for New York Central Railroad and was a valuable employee of forty-two years prior to his retirement.
A man of many interests; he enjoyed gardening, fishing, golf, as well as playing bridge and pinochle with his family and friends. John’s greatest joy and satisfaction was being a grandparent; and he was very supportive and proud of all his grandchildren.
John’s legacy will be his wonderful wit, strength and perseverance, but most of all his continual love and devotion to his wife and family.
His survivors include two children and their families; Jane (Clint Jackson) Hawn-Jackson of Saybrook Township and John Hawn of Powell; and four grandchildren, Sarah Jackson, Jackie Hawn, Morgan Hawn and Stuart Jackson; his sister, Theresa (Frank) Phelps of Ashtabula; and many loving nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Florence A. Hawn, on Oct. 1, 2012; infant son, William P. “Willie” Hawn; his siblings, Mary Ann Garvey, Marceen Redman, Norman Hawn and Kenny Hawn; and his parents.
Calling Hours will be from 1 to 3 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 9th, at ZABACK-WILLIAMS-DUCRO FUNERAL HOME, 500 W. Prospect Road, Ashtabula.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:30 a.m., Monday, Dec. 10th, at Our Lady of Peace Parish, Mt. Carmel Worship site, 1200 E. 21st St., Ashtabula. The Rev. Ernesto Rodriguez will preside. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Ashtabula.
