ASHTABULA —
Michael Wayne Allison, age 53, of Ashtabula, died Friday, Feb. 10, 2012, at the Hospice House in Cleveland surrounded by his loving family, after a long courageous battle with prostate cancer.
The son of Edgar W. and Ronda Lea (Cantrell) Allison, Wayne was born on June 1, 1958, in El Dorado, Kan., and had been a resident of the Ashtabula area for the past thirteen years.
He was employed as truck driver and yard worker for the Delta Railroad Company for ten years, and drove over the road for many years. It was a job he truly enjoyed; he met many friends along the way and spoke of them fondly.
On Oct. 17, 2000, he married Karen Rose in Ashtabula and they had recently celebrated eleven years of marriage.
Wayne was an honorary member with the Guardians USA Vets; founding Blue Chapter; he was overwhelmed with the love extended to him from his fellow Guardians. He enjoyed fishing, bowling, and was an avid gardener, planting, tending and harvesting from his garden gave him great enjoyment.
His front yard was home to many types of birds. He enjoyed watching the Cardinals, Blue jays and Woodpeckers as they came to feed. Wayne was entertained for hours by the many birds that came to visit and nest in his front yard. He had a great sense of humor and could keep you laughing no matter what the situation.
Wayne was a wonderful son, brother, husband, dad, grandpa, uncle, nephew and friend. He will be missed by those he loved and to who returned his love to him. He was a man of strength and wisdom, humility and courage, and an unwavering faith in his Lord.
He is survived by his loving wife, Karen Allison of Ashtabula; step-children, Tracy (David) Holder of Baumholder, Germany, Shawn (Rosalind) Rose of Franklin, N.C., Christopher Rose of Ashtabula, Nicolas (Lindsey) Rose of Lehigh Acres, Fla. and Ashley Rose of Ashtabula; seven grandchildren, Alliey Rose, Mykaela Holder, Kelcie Holder, Samarra Rose, Logan Rose, Avery Holder and Shawn Rose; siblings, Terry (Becky) Allison of Fort Leavenworth, Kan. and Lee (Brendy) Allison and Cindy (Howard) Weltha, all of Emporia, Kan. and Jo (Lou) Paccapaniccia of Shawnee, Kan.; and his mother, Ronda Allison of Emporia, Kan.
He was preceded in death by his son, Daniel Wayne Allison in 2000; and his father, Edgar W. Allison on May 28, 2011.
A Funeral Service will be held 1 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 15th, at DUCRO FUNERAL SERVICES AND CREMATORY, 4524 Elm Ave., Ashtabula, Ohio, with Pastor Ed Christian officiating. Burial will be in Saybrook Cemetery, Saybrook Township.
Calling Hours will be observed from 5 to 7 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 14th, and from 12 Noon until time of Service, Wednesday, at the Funeral Home.
If desired, contributions in Wayne’s name may be made to the Hospice of the Western Reserve, 1166 Lake Ave., Ashtabula, Ohio, 44004.
Wayne always encouraged his family and friends to participate in the PSA screening for the diagnosis of Prostate Cancer. It was his belief that early intervention saved lives.
