MONROE TOWNSHIP —
Jeffrey A. Stump, age 49, of Monroe Township, Ohio, died at home on Thursday, July 22, 2010.
Born Oct. 5, 1960, in Conneaut, Ohio, he was the son of David B. Stump and Jean M. (Lower) Stump Cole. An area resident for the past seven years, he had resided for many years in New Mexico where he pursued his musical career.
Known to many as a “musical genius”, Jeff could play practically any instrument that has strings. He was best known for his fiddle music that he injected into rock music and made it sound like it belonged there. He comes from such a musically-talented background with both his parents that it was inevitable that he would play and sing. His mother played and sang with a well-known local band called “The Lower Trio”, which Jeff filled in with occasionally in his youth. He played locally in the band “Shotgun” for seven years, playing fiddle, steel guitar, lead guitar, and sang lead and harmony vocals. He performed across the country with various bands such as “Ronnie Sessions and The Bullet Band”, the “Jeff Allen Band” and “The Stump Brothers Band”. Music was his life but he was also a huge NASCAR fan.
Jeff was the loving son of his mother, Jean Cole, who resides in Kinsman, Ohio; and is also survived by his companion and caregiver, Loretta Tratar of Monroe Township, Ohio; his son, Jeff Stump of Las Cruces, N.M.; three sisters, Darlene (Bruce) Schirmer of Bedford, Texas, Amy Harvey of Ashtabula, Ohio, and Mary Ann (Kenny) Mason of Kingsville, Ohio; his brother, James (Laura) Stump of Springfield, Tenn.; and numerous more distant relatives.
He was preceded in death by his father, David B. Stump.
A Memorial Service will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, July 31st, at the MARCY FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION CENTER, 208 Liberty St., Conneaut, Ohio, with Pastor Joyce Shellhammer, of First Congregational United Church of Christ, officiating.
Calling Hour will be on Saturday from 12 p.m. until the time of the service at 1 p.m. at the Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Monroe Volunteer Fire Department. Envelopes will be available at the Funeral Home.
