AUSTIN, Texas — Mary Ellen “Mel” Boggins, of Austin, died Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2013.
She was born in Geneva, Ohio, on July 10, 1936. Her parents were the late Mr. and Mrs. Lyle F. Merritt. Mel graduated from Geneva High School and received both her undergraduate and Master’s degrees from Ohio State University.
She was retired from the University of Texas as Director of Career Services, Continuing Education and Alumni Relations of the Graduate School of Library and Information Science.
Mel is survived by her husband, Joseph C. Boggins of Austin; her niece, Jennifer Robinson and nephew, James Quayle, of the Cleveland, Ohio area; her brother-in-law, William Quayle and his wife Diane of New Hampshire; and her husband’s siblings, Mary Mueller, Judge John F. Boggins, and Theresa Roshong, all of Ohio.
Mel had an avid interest in collecting art and especially enjoyed world travel, having visited about 60 countries, some several times.
She belonged to Alpha Phi Alumni Association, National Society of Colonial Dames and Women in Communications.
Special appreciation is extended to both Dr. Howard Marcus and Dr. David Pohl who cared for her during her various illnesses.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 12th, at SCHNEEBERGER FUNERAL HOME, 2222 Fulton Road N.W., Canton, Ohio 44709.
Graveside Services will be 11:15 a.m., Wednesday, Feb. 13th, at St. John’s Cemetery, Canton, Ohio.
