ASHTABULA — Dorothy M. Waltz, age 88, of Ashtabula, died Thursday, Jan. 17, 2013, at Carington Park Nursing Home.
Born May 4, 1924, in Ashtabula, she was the daughter of Louis and Alvena (Fassula) Buccieri. Dorothy grew up on a farm until the age of 12 and then moved to Ashtabula, where her next door neighbor was her future husband. Dorothy married at 17, to her husband, Charles Robert Waltz, on Jan. 17, 1941, the boy next door, the only boyfriend growing up, he was the love of her life. Charles was killed in WWII, Dorothy was very heartbroken and never the same again.
She worked as a hair dresser and owned her own shop in Ashtabula, after closing the shop, she became the district manager of Fannie Farmer Candy Company. After retirement, she was the cook for the priests at Mr. Carmel Church for many years. She loved to cook and loved animals, especially dogs and was well known to rescue several dogs throughout her life.
Survivors include her daughters, Mryna Newsome and Verna Ward, both of Jefferson.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Charles Waltz; and sisters, Gloria Laveck, Rose Grippi, Betty Rovias and Carmel Jeffers; and brothers, Albert and Anthony Butch.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11 a.m., Wednesday, Jan. 23rd, in Our Lady of Peace Parish, Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. Burial will follow in Zachary Taylor National Cemetery in Louisville, Ky.
Visitation will be from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, at GUERRIERO FUNERAL HOME, 1550 W. 19th St., Ashtabula.
