ASHTABULA — Eunice C. Hughes, age 80, of W. 41st St., Ashtabula, died unexpectedly Tuesday afternoon, Dec. 25, 2012, in Cleveland while visiting relatives on Christmas day.
She was born Feb. 24, 1932, in Buckatunna, Miss., the daughter of Leslie and Viola (Everett) McConnell and had resided in Ashtabula the past 43 years coming from Chicago, Ill. She was married to Robert L. Hughes on May 20, 1974, in Ashtabula.
She worked at True Temper for many years and retired in 1998 from Transplastic (Bailey’s). Mrs. Hughes loved people and her activities included cooking, walking, and listening to music, especially Lee Williams & the Williams Brothers.
She leaves behind her devoted husband of 38 years, Robert L. Hughes; two children, Dorothy Harris of Ashtabula and DeWayne M. Hughes of McComb, Miss.; a sister, Johnetta Latham of Chicago, Ill.; nieces, Shinell Harrison, Derilyn Parker and Denise Fairchild; and a nephew, Carlos Townsel.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and a sister, Deanna Chapman.
Funeral Services will be held 11 a.m., Friday, Jan. 4th, at People’s Baptist Church, 3837 West Ave., Ashtabula, with the Rev. German Womack officiating. Burial will be in Edgewood Cemetery.
Calling Hours will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 3rd, at the Ashtabula Home of FLEMING & BILLMAN FUNERAL DIRECTORS, 526 W. Prospect Road, Ashtabula.
