ASHTABULA — Anil Ganpatbhai Patel, M.D., passed away Friday, Nov. 23, 2012, at the Cleveland Clinic.
He was born April 13, 1958, in Bavla, India, the son of Ganpatbhai and Shardaben Patel and had been a practicing physician in Ashtabula since 1992.
After graduating from A.G. High School and B.J. Medical College in India, he completed his Pathology and Internal Medicine Residency at Loyola University, Chicago, Ill. and also received professional training at Good Samaritan Hospital in Baltimore, Md. and Mercy Hospital in Chicago, Ill. before coming to Ashtabula and beginning his private practice and affiliation with Ashtabula County Medical Center.
Dr. Patel served on numerous boards and committees throughout the medical field, including Chief of Staff for ACMC, and previously served as the medical director for the Ashtabula City Board of Health for many years.
He loved dancing, music, talking and following politics, and watching the stock market, but the love he had for his family and his patients was truly unmatched. He took great pride in his sons and their many accomplishments at such a young age.
His survivors include his wife, Lopa Patel, whom he married August 22, 1982, in Ahmedabad, India; two sons, Sohan and Sahil Patel of Ashtabula; his mother, Shardaben Patel of India; his father-in-law, Natvarlal Patel of India; his brother and sister, Arun (Lata) Patel and Suhasini (Arvind) Patel of India; sister-in-law, Bella (Vikram) Patel of Houston, Texas; brother-in-law, Hemant (Heena) Patel of Houston, Texas; his special niece and nephew, Viraj and Calla Patel of Houston, Texas; and several other nieces and nephews in India.
He was preceded in death by his father; mother-in-law, Mrudula Patel; and a brother-in-law, Sunil Patel.
Calling Hours will be held from 5 to 8 p.m., Monday, Nov. 26th, and from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 27th, at Gateway Church, 2300 Austinburg Road, Austinburg.
A traditional Hindu Service will be held 2 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 27th, at DUCRO FUNERAL SERVICES AND CREMATORY, 4524 Elm Ave., Ashtabula.
The service will be webcast at www.ducrowebcast.com.
Contributions may be made to the Dr. Anil Patel Memorial Fund for the family to establish a fitting tribute to honor Dr. Patel at a later date.
Dr. Patel’s legacy will continue to live on as he will be sadly missed by his loving family, many friends, and countless patients to whom he devoted his life.
