Helen Hadlock

ASHTABULA — Helen “Sissy” Hadlock, age 50, died on Thursday, July 12, 2012, at her residence with her loving family at her side. She was diagnosed with small cell bone cancer in August of 2011 and fought courageously not to become a statistic.

The daughter of Tal and Helen (Moore) Hamilton, she was born on June 8, 1962, in Ashtabula and had remained a life-time area resident. Sissy was a member of the Lily of the Valley Regular Baptist Church and loved to hear family as they preached God’s word.

Thursday night meant BINGO at the Moose, with her friends. She enjoyed the laughter and friendly teasing from her “BINGO Buddies”. Once a month, Sissy and her aunts would get together for an evening of love and laughter. A talented cook and wonderful homemaker, she could be counted on making her steak and peppers for every occasion. Her dad, Tal, is an excellent cook; and Sissy loved his cornbread and soup beans.

A wonderful mom, grandma, companion, sister, and friend, Sissy will be remembered for her courage to fight her illness with fierce determination, her belief that though her illness others might become more aware of this disease, her strength and grace, and her love of family and friends.

She is survived by her father, Tal Hamilton; sons, Joe and J.R. Hadlock, both of Saybrook; grandchildren, Angel and Joseph; her loving fiancé of eight years, George Sparks of Saybrook; step-children, Melissa Evans, Erma Sparks, Marianne Sparks and Charles Sparks, all of Ashtabula; siblings, Lona Hoffacker of Ashtabula, Tammy (John) Erdle of Jefferson and John (Lori) Hamilton of Ashtabula; and nieces and nephews, Jessica, Bobbie, and Shauna Gray, Anthony Fleissner, Ashley and Amber Hazeltine, Kari, Jodi, Mikey, Brain, Charles and Faith Hamilton and Christopher Preston.

She was preceded in death by her fiancé, Jimmy Hughart; sister-in-law, Kristin Hamilton; and her mother, Helen Hamilton on May 4, 1998.

Funeral Service will be 12:30 p.m. on Monday, July 16th, at GUERRIERO FUNERAL HOME, 1550 West 19th St. in Ashtabula, with the Revs. Scott Hamilton, Evan Hamilton and Sammy Hamilton CO-officiating with burial to follow in Edgewood Cemetery.

Visitation will be on Monday morning from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Funeral Home.
