WINDSOR —
William Soloweyko, age 90, born Sept. 18, 1921, in Windsor. “Uncle Bill” to many, departed this world, Wednesday, August 29, 2012, bound for glory and reunion with his parents, Andrew and Mary Soloweyko; sister, Anna Karlovic; and a brother, Alex Soloweyko who preceded him in death.
Mild mannered, a friend to all he met, Uncle Bill Soloweyko was a privilege to know and was loved by many.
Few knew his characteristic limp was from WWII combat shrapnel where he earned the Purple Heart. Returning home from the War, he taught himself a trade and became a superb brick mason whose works are now monuments to his talents. Well known to those in the building trade and well liked by all he met and worked with.
Bill lived in Windsor on the family farm where he enjoyed the outdoors and his canine companions. He planted chestnut trees and would honor many with a gift of fresh chestnuts at harvest. His final years were spent at Burton Health Care where he devoured the newspapers and read scores of novels. Bill always enjoyed his time with his family and would often arrive with a brown grocery bag with a can of mixed nuts and a bag of chips and a smile on his face which will be sorely missed.
Survived by his loving sister, Leda Kaminski, age 96 of Windsor; sister-in-law, Rosemarie Soloweyko of Windsor; and a long list of adoring nieces and nephews.
A private committal service with U.S. Army Military Honors will be held at Windsor Township Cemetery.
