ASHTABULA —
Wayne Richard “Dick” Christy, age 80, of Ashtabula, Ohio, passed away in the comfort of his home and surrounded by family on Wednesday, August 29, 2012.
A loving husband, caring father and respected leader, he served with the U.S. Army in Korea before moving from Linesville, Pa. to work 31 years at Ashtabula Bow Socket, where he rose to become Plant Superintendent. He later joined and owned Industrial Exchange, a manufacturing equipment brokerage, until retiring in 2001.
Most in life, he treasured his family, who looked to him as “Mr. Fix It” because of the time and talents he shared generously on their many home projects. His hobbies included woodworking and stained glass art, which he first learned as a member of First United Methodist Church and as a volunteer on their celebrated reredo project. He enjoyed time at the ocean, a backyard of birds, dinner outings with friends and frequent family gatherings.
He is survived by Marcia, his wife and love of his life for over 60 years; his children, Gary Christy (Emily) of Medina, Ohio, Jeanne Niemi (Robert) of Ashtabula, Michael Christy (Judi) of Green, Ohio and James Christy (Rhea) of Ashtabula; eight grandchildren, Jon Niemi (Rachel), Zachary Christy, Josh Niemi, Megan Christy, Erika Christy, Kayla Siekkinen, Allison Christy and Hannah Siekkinen; and a soon to be born great-grandchild, Braxton Richard Niemi; a brother, Lloyd Christy of Madison, Ohio; a sister, Donna Dunfee of Springfield, Ohio; a sister-in-law, Mary Alyce Meadors of Ashtabula; and several loving nieces and nephews.
Memorial Services will be held 12 Noon, Saturday, Sept. 1st, at First United Methodist Church, 4506 Elm Ave., Ashtabula, with the Rev. Chris Bell presiding.
Visitation will be held from 10:30 a.m. until time of Service at Noon, Saturday, at the Church.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church Memorial Fund or Hospice of the Western Reserve. DUCRO FUNERAL SERVICES AND CREMATORY, 4524 Elm Ave., Ashtabula, is handling arrangements.
