CONNEAUT — Kenneth H. Vaughn, affectionately known as Ken, age 72, of Conneaut, died Friday, March 12, 2010, at his home. He had been in failing health for some time.
Born August 2, 1937, in Kent, Ohio, he was the son of Harold B. and Helen (Bennington) Vaughn.
He attended the former Fenn College in Cleveland where he had majored first in mechanical engineering, then in journalism. Ken left school to work at the former Cleveland Press and then the San Francisco Chronicle. He then began his broadcasting career in Akron, before settling in Conneaut where he was news director along with other jobs for W-WWOW for 31 years. After leaving the radio station, he hosted a television show on the local government access channel.
One of his hobbies was writing poetry and stories and he recorded them on CD, having two of them published. He was a member of the American Poets Society. He enjoyed blue grass music and played the mandolin and also enjoyed model trains and artwork.
Ken attended the Conneaut Church of God and had also attended the former St. Paul’s Episcopal Church.
Survivors include his two daughters, Lydia Rachel (Gary) Potter of Monroe Township, Ohio and LuAnne (Allen) Waha of Dorset, Ohio; eight grandchildren, James Robert Irish, John Spencer Irish and Kim, Michelle, Stacy, Angel, Bill and Frank Waha; and 14 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife, Barbara A. Vaughn in 2004.
Funeral Services will be 2 p.m., Tuesday, March 16th, at MARCY FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION CENTER, 208 Liberty St., Conneaut, Ohio, with Pastor Carson Robson, of Conneaut Church of God, officiating. Burial will take place in Hillside Cemetery, Cortland, Ohio.
Friends may call from 12 p.m. Noon until time of Service at 2 p.m., Tuesday, at the Funeral Home.
