GEAUGA — William T. Clark, age 89, of Burton, Ohio, passed away Friday morning, March 12, 2010, at UHHS Geauga Medical Center.
He was born April 20, 1920, in Mesopotamia, Ohio, the son of Dale F. and Basha D. (Osmond) Clark. He graduated from Mesopotamia High School in 1937 and then served four years in the United States Air Force in the Combat Intelligence Division during the Second World War.
He attended Warren Business College, School of Banking at the University of Wisconsin and completed the Senior Bank Officers course (Harvard University). William married Margaret Jean Reynolds (deceased) on March 11, 1951, in the Mesopotamia Methodist Church.
After working his way up to president and being 40 years in the banking industry, he retired from the 1st National Bank of Burton (president) and Huntington National Bank (senior vice-president).
As a community leader, William was committed to a lifetime of service. He received numerous awards and much recognition for his involvement and achievements. William was instrumental in establishing the Geauga Campus of Kent State University in Burton and for more than twenty years, he served on the Geauga Hospital Board and the University Hospital Board.
He was actively involved with Burton Congregational Church, Geauga County Farm Bureau, Senior Center Board of Trustees Inc., Geauga Community Improvement Corporation, Geauga County Job and Family Services, Advisory Board at the Geauga Department of Aging, Burton Chamber of Commerce, Geauga County Planning Commission, Greater Geauga Ruritan Club, Northeastern Ohio Bankers Association, Geauga County Bankers Association, Burton and Middlefield Village Councils, Kent State Geauga Campus Advisory Board, Plastic Processors Association, American Legion, Health Trustee Institute, Geauga County Airport Commission, Burton Historical Society, Middlefield Historical Society and Mesopotamia Historical Society.
He was president of Geauga Maid Inc. and retired as president of Clark Plastics when he sold the business in 2004.
His survivors include his son, Thomas R. Clark of Burton (Donna Bell of Orwell); his daughter, Mary Ann (Ronald) Aardema of Aurora; two grandsons, Mark and Matthew Aardema; sister-in-law, Janet (Robert) Moss of Wadsworth; and his nephews, David (Barbara) Moss and Dale (Paula) Moss.
A Memorial Service will be 11 a.m., Thursday, March 18th, at the Burton Congregational Church, 14558 West Park St. “On the Square”, Burton Village.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., Wednesday, March 17th, at RUSSELL FUNERAL SERVICE, 15670 West High St. (Rt. 87), Middlefield, Ohio.
