KINGSVILLE — Joseph S. Zak, age 81, formerly of Ashtabula, died Thursday, Feb. 4, 2010, at the Ashtabula County Nursing Home, where he had been a resident for several years.
He was born March 23, 1928, in Altoona, Pa., the son of Stanley and Mary (Kraisczyk) Zakrzewski. He joined the Navy in 1945 and was honorably discharged as Fireman 2nd class.
Prior to his retirement, he worked in the maintenance department at Reliance Electric for 22 years. Joe loved cars, especially AMC’s. He and his late wife, Eileen, could be seen driving around the area in his pride and joy, a bright red AMX. His passion for automobiles took him to many car shows and cruise-ins. He also enjoyed fixing up homes for rental properties.
He is survived by his children, Alice (Bill) Brumley of Indiana, Victoria (Douglas) Carroll of California, David (June) Wagner of Harpersfield, Barb (Arnold) Schulte and Karla (Joe) Massie, both of Ashtabula and Roberta (David) Jarvis of Pierpont; six grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and one sister, Annette Dragon of Ashtabula.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Eileen on March 10, 2002; brothers, Theodore, Steve and Frank; sister, Teri; and his parents.
Memorial Service will be 7 p.m., Monday, Feb. 8th, at ZABACK-DUCRO FUNERAL HOME, 500 W. Prospect Road, Ashtabula with Full Military Honors. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memory Gardens, N. Kingsville.
Calling Hour will be from 6 p.m. until the time of Service, at the Funeral Home.
