ASHTABULA — Roland “Sam” Kent Sr., age 84, of Greenbriar Drive, passed away Friday, August 27, 2010, at his home.

Born Jan. 26, 1926, in Washington D.C., the son of Roland Samuel and Pauline F. (Headley) Kent and resided in Ashtabula for 58 years. Sam was a U.S. Marine serving during WW II.

Later in life, he would retire from the East Ohio Gas Company in 1983. He loved to travel with his late wife, Helen to vacation homes in Lottsburg, Va. and Myrtle Beach, S.C.

He was a member of Kiwanis and also loved to attend local events and “people watch.” An avid sports fan (especially those his grandchildren participated in), he also loved to talk to the crowd anywhere.

Survivors include his two sons, Sam (Melanie) Kent of Ashtabula and Matt (Jayne) Kent of Ft. Pierce, Fla.; He was also surrounded by six grandchildren and their spouses and great-grandchildren, Marla (Sam), Madeline, Elizabeth and Evelyn Lucarelli, Jamie (Jimmy), Seth and Morgan Tackett, Shawn (Jessica), Hannah and Jackson Kent, Kelly (Tim) and Ava Allensworth, Adam Kent and Erica (Jimmy) and Addison Ettinger; and sisters, Rose (Jene) Randall, Phillis Watkins and Sandy Huett.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Kent; one sister, Doris McLaren; and his parents.

Private Family Service will be held on Tuesday, August 31st, with the Rev. Kenneth Roberts, Pastor of the Pentecostal Church of God, officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memory Gardens, North Kingsville with Full Military Honors.
