ASHTABULA — Clark Wayland Rood, age 80, of West 48th St., passed away Saturday, March 9, 2013, at home with his loving family by his side.
He was born March 15, 1932, in Geneva, Ohio, the son of Mark Clark and Edna Anna (Anderson) Rood and had been a lifelong area resident. A Veteran of the U.S. Army, he proudly served his country during the Korean War before being honorably discharged.
Prior to his retirement in 1981, he worked 17 years as a truck driver for W.H. Flower Company. He then worked part-time through the senior aid program at the Ashtabula County Joint Vocational School and the Geneva Community Center.
Clark attended Church of the Living God and served as a volunteer fireman for the Sheffield Volunteer Fire Department for several years. He enjoyed antique cars, old western movies, the Three Stooges and reading, especially books on cars. However, his favorite pastime was spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
His survivors include his loving wife, Barbara (Ratliff) Rood, whom he had been with since 1965; four children, Donald (Marge) Rood of Conneaut, Mark (Debbie) Rood of Dorset, Edward (Elizabeth) Rood of Sheffield and Patty (Michael) Chaney of Grand Junction, Colo.; 13 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Leora (Feori) DeLuia of Ashtabula.
He was preceded in death by a great-grandchild; two brothers, Donald Rood and Wilber Rood; four sisters, Esther Rood, Florence Simpson, Rowena Hackthorn and Marion Barnum; and his parents.
Calling Hours will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, March 14th, with Services to be held at 11 a.m. on his birthday, Friday, March 15th, at the DUCRO FUNERAL SERVICES AND CREMATORY, 4524 Elm Ave., Ashtabula. The Rev. Robert Falke, Pastor of Church of the Living God, will officiate. Burial will be in South Denmark Cemetery, Clay Road, Denmark Township with Full Military Honors conducted by the American Legion Post #103 and the VFW Post #943.
