CONNEAUT — William T. “Bill” Welty, age 85, of Conneaut, Ohio, died Tuesday evening, Feb. 19, 2013, at his home.
Born July 16, 1927, in Craigton, Ohio, he was the son of Daniel C. and Mirian (Bechtel) Welty. Bill was one of five brothers who all were in Uncle Sam’s forces during World War II from 1945 to 1947. He attended the College of Wooster for three years.
Bill recently celebrated 38 years with A.A. He served as manager of a half-way house on Keefus Road from 1974 to 1977. He was a self-employed handyman who could do most anything, helping over 100 people in the Conneaut/Ashtabula/Erie areas until the age of 80 when he was slowed down by a stroke.
He loved to golf and bowl, and played golf until 2011 and had breakfast with his golfing buddies during the off-season.
Survivors include his wife, Linda M. (Cottrill) Welty, whom he married Sept. 29, 1975; a daughter and two sons from a previous marriage; and three sons, Stephen W. Welty of Conneaut, Jonathan A. Welty of North Carolina, and Clinton J. “C.J.” Welty of Columbus, Ohio; two grandsons, Bailey and Christian; two sisters, Caroline (Doyle) Sidle of Fredricksburg, Ohio, and Charlotte L. Jones Alexander of Wooster, Ohio; two sisters-in-law, Doris Welty of Canton, Ohio, and Betty Welty of Florida; and numerous nieces, nephews and more distant relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Richard, Robert, James and Charles; and a sister, Ruby Smith.
Funeral Services will be at 3 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 23rd, at the MARCY FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION CENTER, 208 Liberty St., Conneaut, with Pastor Jan Walsh, of New Leaf United Methodist Church, officiating.
Calling Hours will be at the Funeral Home tonight, Friday evening, Feb. 22nd, from 5 to 9 p.m.
