ASHTABULA — Brian Donald “Mac” Mackynen, age 55, of Ohio Ave., died suddenly Sunday, Nov. 22, 2009, from an apparent heart attack.


He was born Sept. 15, 1954, in Ashtabula, the son of Donald E. and Ruth Esther (Asuma) Mackynen and had been a lifelong Ashtabula resident.


A 1972 graduate of Harbor High School, he married Jamie (Weir) on Oct. 13, 1973, then went to work for ESAB (formerly Linde Wire/Union Carbide) where he had been employed for the past 36 years as a millwright and mechanic.


Brian and his wife were dedicated to Lakeside Athletic Boosters and previously the Harbor Athletic Boosters, having volunteered at football games and other events for many years. A member of the BPO Elks #208, the North End Club, and the East Ashtabula Club, he also enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling, working on cars, riding his motorcycle and bowling. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family.


His survivors include his wife of 36 years, Jamie; two sons, Brian (Michelle) Mackynen Jr. of Ashtabula and Tim (Amy) Mackynen of Beaver Falls, Pa.; ten grandchildren, Destiny, Sierra, Madison, Dante, Saundro, Trey, Jordan, Michael, Nicklas and Karlee; his mother, Esther Mackynen of Ashtabula; three brothers, Thomas (Theresa) Mackynen of Ashtabula, Alan (Janet) Mackynen of Jackson, Mich. and Steven (Stacey) Mackynen of Casa Grande, Ariz.; an uncle, William Asuma of Ashtabula; and several nieces and nephews.


He was preceded in death by his father, Donald E. Mackynen, last week, Nov. 12, 2009; his daughter, Kathryn Margaret Mackynen in infancy; one sister, Kathryn Ann Mackynen; and his grandparents, Arvo and Ida Mackynen and Taano (Cy) and Senja Asuma.


A Service will be held 1 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 25th, at DUCRO FUNERAL SERVICES AND CREMATORY, 4524 Elm Ave., Ashtabula, with the Rev. Larry Mackey, Interim Pastor of Bethany Lutheran Church, officiating. Burial will be in Edgewood Cemetery at a later date.


Calling Hours will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Wednesday, at the Funeral Home. BPO Elks #208 will conduct their Memorial Service at 1 p.m.
